Vivid Sydney is a festival of light, music and ideas. Lights and ideas can be found all around Circular Quay and the Rocks, music performances are held mostly inside the Opera House.

Center of attention was the giant projection of moving figures and patterns on the Opera House. The artists who created these colourfull and creative lightpieces of art on their tiny computer screens must have wetted their pants of exciment seeing their work being projected on the Opera House for that very first time.

The Customs House was subject to a show involving not just light but also sound effects.. it was being filled up with water, sand and it litterally transformed into a different building. The Fire dance was another highlight, it played every hour during the evening and shoots leaps and bolts of fire on the music of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and the Katy Perry song Firework.

Other, smaller installations, were spread out around the Circular Quay/The Rocks area. I've heard from many people around me that it was this year much better than last year. I wasn't here last year but I can tell that this year was pretty amazing and it might be hard to beat for the next year to come. I suppose that the beamer used on the Opera House must've been pretty new technology, that might have been a reason for this to be used this year for the first time. I have never seen such a projection before. Wondering if you could play a FPS with that, or what if a computer error comes up? Nice. Or how much would you be able to annoy habitants of a random house on the other side of the harbour by projecting a porn movie covering their entire home(s). The possibilities are endless.

An idea for next year might be to enhance the Opera House projections to music/sound. Now that would be a vivid experience.
